Infographics + food + politics

My infographic beast has been well-fed today. :)

The Eating Habits of Conservatives Versus Liberals [INFOGRAPHIC]

Marijuana = Wine?

A proposed ballot measure calls for the treatment of marijuana in the same way as alcohol.

The Regulate Marijuana Like Wine Act of 2012 proposes that "persons 21 years of age or older shall no longer be prohibited from the use, possession, trade, gifting, sales, distribution, storage, transportation, production, or cultivation of marijuana."

A request for a title and circulation of a summary of the measure's main objectives was filed with California Attorney General Kamala Harris' office May 18.

Horoscope diversion + announcement

As my trusty horoscope says today, I am finding it difficult to sit in my seat!

Leo
By Rick LevineThe social aspects of your day may grow very complicated, pressuring you to contract your energy. However, you have personal business that must be attended to today, even if it's not much fun. Once you push through your own resistance, everything seems to become easier, freeing up enough time for you to do something totally unexpected by your peers. Setting your mind on a particular accomplishment is a wise strategy, but things won't necessarily turn out as planned. Let the element of surprise work in your favor.

I have 2 pending stories on my desk. One is short and sweet but I don't want it to take time away from the other, which is really interesting but increasingly complicated one. And it's even more challenging after getting a phone call this morning from UNITY: Journalists of Color Inc. telling me that I got accepted to their 2011 Global Reporting Fellowship. I'll have the honor to cover the UN High-Level Meeting on AIDS, where the past and future response to the disease will be discussed and mapped out. I'm going to NYC for the first time, for a week, where I'll have the privilege of working with experienced journalists and will have the chance to meet world leaders. I couldn't be more ecstatic!!!!!

But for now, I have to get down to business, finish the tasks at hand, and find the least goofy picture of myself to send off to UNITY for a bio. :)

Ambiguous horoscopes that fit

Horoscopes are fun to follow because sometimes they make so much sense ... don't judge. :)

Here's today's Leo:
"Today's reliable Taurus New Moon falls in your 10th House of Status, making it easier to express yourself on the job. Although you're able to explain a complicated recipe for success in very simple language, you may worry about your inability to execute your own strategy. Obviously, being an inspiring speaker now isn't enough. Overcome your fear of failure and lead by example, so that others can more easily follow you."
I had a lot of fun touring the flower market today for my Mother's Day story. I got to interview people in Spanish! Muy fun-o. Now I wish I could incorporate all their fascinating personal stories into my article but I'm worried that I'll stray from the core concept of identifying the power of the Latino economy. So I will follow my horoscope's advice and just do it! :)
